Description: The first time I had some mats cut for a painting about 25 years ago, I was shocked by how much it cost. I decided, if I was going to continue painting watercolors and framing them, I needed to learn how to cut mats and frame the paintings myself. This one day workshop will go over the basics of framing a watercolor to enter a show, how to cut a mat, choosing a frame and the current styles, and finishing the back of the framed piece. Students will learn where to purchase frames and what might work with their image.
Supplies: Students are encouraged to bring a painting or photo and the mat board to cut a single or double mat. Lorraine will have her mat cutter available. Mat board (32 x 40) can be purchased from Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Academy Art and Frame. I would suggest white or off white mat if you are entering a painting in a juried competition. Also, acid free mat is important for the archival quality. (If you have questions about this, please feel free to email me.)
