Story Behind This Painting: I observed this Greater Flamingo bathing at the Jacksonville Zoo in Florida, clearly reveling in the moment. As I photographed his playful antics, I captured a magical instant when the splash of the water echoed the movement of his coral-colored feathers. At times, his plumage seemed to ignite like flames, giving the image a sense of fire within the water—hence the title Fire and Water.
